The Battle of Waxhaws, aka Burford's Massacre, was a brutal encounter during the Revolutionary War. On May 29, 1780 Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton caught up to the Americans under Col. Abraham Buford in the Waxhaws region of South Carolina. The patriots managed to fire a single volley before being completely overrun by Tarleton's dragoons and mounted infantry.
